Ohio Cup
extrarforreal:
So, I got home around ten o’clock from the Humans vs. Zombies mission and then had to get things together for heading to Columbus the next morning. Finished organizing around midnight, went to bed shortly after, and then woke up at 2:45am to get my car packed up and try to shove some breakfast in my mouth. We were on the road at 4:00am and made it to Columbus around 8:30am.
I. Was. So. Excited.
Do you guys understand how long it has been since I laced up my cleats? Do you have any idea how long it has been since I got to sweat in my jersey? This entire semester…I have been sidelines with injury. Standing in the huddle with my teammates, getting our heads in the game…I had this huge rush of adrenaline. Although I didn’t start because trying to get a good jump on “Brooms Up!” is difficult with an ankle that is both taped and braced, when I got to go in…it felt soooooo good to step on that pitch. I may have been playing beater for the first time in a year instead of chaser, but just to be out there…to throw that bludger, to call out to my team, to be able to play…I just. Words cannot describe that feeling. The glorious feeling that I have been unable to have all semester. Seriously…I just…only quidkids and perhaps other athletes can even understand.
We won our first game against Ashland. Took a break, then played a game against Bowling Green State University. Can I just give major props to everyone on the Bowling Green team? I mean seriously. We have played them almost every semester since our formation. The amount of improvement from the fall until the Ohio Cup was absolutely phenomenal, and I mean that. Their speed is so much better, their strategy, bludger control, every aspect of their game has improved. Their team has the strength to really compete and I give them major, MAJOR props. We may have beat you this time, but I look forward to the next time our teams meet.
Between this game we had a long wait for our next one because a team dropped the tournament so we were given a bye. Most of us went to lunch, then the rain started to roll in. Thankfully, I still had the huge screened-in tent in my van. So we pulled that out and started to put it together…with some technical difficulties. However, Virginia Tech offered to help us out. Seriously, they were so kind. So with their help, we got our tent up and got to sit out of the rain. Later, we also had VA Tech join us because they were so helpful. It was nice to just sit and share stories with them all. I love getting to meet new quidkids. <3
I goal reffed in the rain and got completely soaked. Thankfully, one of our players offered me his jacket when I got back in the tent so I wasn’t completely wet and cold.
Then we had our last game of the day against Webster. It was short and sweet. I got to play again.
They called the tournament after that due to the storms rolling in. Which is understandable…but I had a realization hit me.
This tournament, was my very last as a college student. My last time with this team. As a Spartan. It just feels so surreal. I don’t want to grow up. I don’t want to go into the real world. It’s inevitable, but I will never forget this group of people. They will forever be family in my heart. They have literally MADE my college career. I don’t know if they understand just how much they mean to me. We still have a few weeks of practice before the semester officially ends, and I am not going to waste any of it.
Most of us went to Steak n Shake after the tournament and had more laughs. I love this team. I cannot stress that enough.
Last Spartan tournament. 8c
I can’t believe it was our last one, but at least we went out on a good one. It was so much fun, despite the rain (and occasionally because of it :P), and we had singalongs with other teams and great teamwork and parties and everything yesterday.
I’m going to miss everyone on this team.
